When I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis 22 years ago I was a complete and total full-blown sugar addict. I don’t say this lightly. I mean it. I was addicted to sugar the way an alcoholic is addicted to alcohol. In order to reverse my autoimmune disease (which I did within 6 months of diagnosis and it’s been gone ever since), I had to quit sugar. The break up was tough. In fact I write about this in my #1 best-selling book, Solving the Autoimmune Puzzle. I talk about what I now call the “detox-retox rollercoaster.” It took several detox-retox cycles before I finally knew that sugar was like rat poison. I knew I would never eat rat poison, so I was able to stop eating sugar. One of the ways I was able to stop so completely is by replacing the rat poison version of sugar and sugar substitutes with some alternatives that still gave me the sweet taste every once in a while. Mood
Your Mood is a Sign of Your Food.
Do you find that you’re anxious a lot, to the point what I call the hamster is going on the wheel; you can’t get it to stop with your thoughts, having a hard time going to sleep because of anxiety, even panic attacks?
I’m Dr. Keesha Ewers, and I’ve helped hundreds of people just like you with that problem navigate it and move through it.
I would like to give you tips on how to affect your mood in a way that’s natural. There are a lot of things I do in my medical practice. Neurotransmitters, adrenal glands, and hormones do all kinds of things to help you balance but one thing you can do at home is to look at your food.
Remember that food equals mood always.
The Impact on Your Health from Stressful Childhood Events.
Have you had trauma in your childhood? I’m Dr. Keesha Ewers. I help people understand the meaning of trauma, and the impact that it has on your adult life.
One of the things that people say to me is “No, I didn’t have any trauma. I had a really good childhood.” I would like you to understand that everybody has had trauma; it just depends on where your bar is set.
You can have capital-T trauma, or you can have lower-case-t trauma.
Capital-T trauma is going to be sexual abuse, domestic violence, physical, psychological, verbal abuse, neglect; all the scenarios that were described in the adverse childhood experiences study that was done between 1995 and 1997 that I wrote about it in my book, “Solving the Autoimmune Puzzle.”
The lower-case-t traumas, are going to be situations like failing a test, getting picked last for the baseball team, having a set of friends on the playground one day and then having them all turn against you the next day, being in a motor vehicle accident, having someone that you love to die, including a pet. These are all very traumatic experiences, that’s what gets locked into your body. [Read more…] about The Impact on Your Health from Stressful Childhood Events.
How Do I Get My Sizzle for Life Back?
Dopamine is where libido starts. It’s not only responsible for our level of sex drive, but also our general ability to set and meet our goals. It’s the neurotransmitter we need to feel desire, to feel content, and when it’s balanced we are less likely to fall into addictive patterns of behavior. Dopamine is part of the “quartet of neurotransmitter” needed for a life full of passion and zest. The other three are oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins. I have blogs on all four of these feel-good hormones.
This is where our focus, concentration, and part of our energy comes from. It’s also part of our pleasure-reward system and helps us feel enjoyment, bliss, and even euphoria when we accomplish something we have set our minds to. [Read more…] about How Do I Get My Sizzle for Life Back?

Do You Suffer from Self-Worth Resistance?
You might have heard of insulin resistance. This is when your cells won’t allow the pancreatic hormone insulin into the cell to metabolize your sugar intake into energy. When you are insulin resistant, you store your sugar as fat rather than using it properly for energy.
I have come to realize many people have self-worth resistance. I am going to define this as your mind not allowing positive thoughts or compliments in to be metabolized as self-esteem. [Read more…] about Do You Suffer from Self-Worth Resistance?
