The Impact on Your Health from Stressful Childhood Events.
Have you had trauma in your childhood? I’m Dr. Keesha Ewers. I help people understand the meaning of trauma, and the impact that it has on your adult life.
One of the things that people say to me is “No, I didn’t have any trauma. I had a really good childhood.” I would like you to understand that everybody has had trauma; it just depends on where your bar is set.
You can have capital-T trauma, or you can have lower-case-t trauma.
Capital-T trauma is going to be sexual abuse, domestic violence, physical, psychological, verbal abuse, neglect; all the scenarios that were described in the adverse childhood experiences study that was done between 1995 and 1997 that I wrote about it in my book, “Solving the Autoimmune Puzzle.”
The lower-case-t traumas, are going to be situations like failing a test, getting picked last for the baseball team, having a set of friends on the playground one day and then having them all turn against you the next day, being in a motor vehicle accident, having someone that you love to die, including a pet.
